Europe Direct North Aegean successfully organized two special events entitled “Greece’s National Issues and a United Europe”, held on 11 June 2026 in Mytilene, at the Lesvos Chamber of Commerce, and on 12 June 2026 in Chios, at the Homerion Cultural Centre. 
The events were addressed to officers of the Hellenic Armed Forces and the Security Forces and focused on contemporary issues relating to European defence, international law, the Law of the Sea, Greek–Turkish relations, and the geopolitical developments in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean.
The keynote speakers included Members of the European Parliament Manolis Kefalogiannis and Nikolaos Farantouris, Ambassador (Ret.) Andreas Papastavrou, and Professors Stelios Perrakis, Grigoris Tsaltas, and Panos Grigoriou. Through their presentations, they examined key aspects of the conference topics, highlighting the European Union’s role in addressing today’s security challenges and strengthening international cooperation.
Mytilene
The first event took place at the Lesvos Chamber of Commerce, in the presence of representatives of local authorities, the Hellenic Armed Forces, and the Security Forces. The conference was moderated by Dr Kleio Chatzidaniel, Lecturer at the University of the Aegean.
Chios
The second event was hosted at the Homerion Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Chios, in cooperation with the 96th Higher National Guard Battalions Command (96 ADTE). The conference was moderated by Professor Panos Grigoriou, Head of Europe Direct North Aegean.
Europe Direct North Aegean extends its sincere thanks to Mr Panagiotis Lympereas and Mr Nikolaos Moraitis for their excellent cooperation, outstanding organisation, and warm hospitality, all of which contributed significantly to the successful delivery of the events.
The organisation also expresses its gratitude to all speakers, moderators, representatives of the Hellenic Armed Forces, the Hellenic Police, local authorities, and everyone who attended. Their active participation played a key role in the success of both conferences.
The events highlighted the importance of informed dialogue on Greece’s national issues and the role of the European Union, while strengthening cooperation among stakeholders and promoting the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and experience.
